Webb’s Pillars of Creation

By A sky worth slowing for · myAudience

Authentic 2022 Webb NIRCam processed infrared image of the Pillars of Creation, with visible colors assigned to infrared filters

NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI; image processing: Joseph DePasquale, Anton Koekemoer and Alyssa Pagan (STScI) · NASA informational/editorial media usage guidelines; no endorsement implied

This authentic Webb NIRCam image, released in October 2022, shows gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula’s star-forming region. Its colors map separate infrared filter measurements into visible hues; they are not a naked-eye view. Look at the structure without assuming the pillars are solid rock. This is processed telescope data, distinct from our generated space illustration. The source note credits the science and image-processing teams.
