Explain all five points in a concise Foundation message

By UK GCSE Spanish · independent study · myAudience

Four fictional adult people talk in an invented tree-lined plaza beside separate baskets of apples and oranges. One holds a notebook; a blue backpack and a fountain with basin are visible. No scene establishes names, nationality, occupation, preferences or actual private routines.

Explain all five points in a concise Foundation message

A short message still needs a complete communication plan. This original Foundation practice task asks for five points about a fictional neighbourhood: describe it; give an opinion of the square and a reason; explain what you normally do there; report yesterday's visit; and state a plan for tomorrow. About 50 words is a guide to task length, not five isolated sentences with no connection. Allocate meaningful space to every point before adding optional detail, and choose invented information rather than disclosing a real address or routine.

A content ledger reveals omissions that grammar checking misses. For the first point, barrio tranquilo gives a description. Me gusta la plaza porque hay árboles supplies both opinion and reason. Normalmente leo allí supplies the routine. Ayer compré un libro reports the visit, and mañana voy a volver supplies a plan. The model also includes a negative purchase and a companion, but those additions must not displace a required point. A perfectly conjugated paragraph that omits tomorrow does not satisfy the whole communication task.

Select time forms after selecting meaning. Normalmente anchors a habitual present; ayer anchors a completed visit; mañana with voy a + infinitive gives a future intention. These forms have already been taught in the earlier sequence. Avoid attaching ayer to compro merely to make the sentence look past. For the fictional account, compré and escribí make the completed actions explicit. Their first-person forms differ from Ana compró and Ana escribió; preserving a name while keeping the narrator's ending would change who acted.

Reasons should explain the stated opinion or action. « Me gusta la plaza porque hay árboles » links the positive judgment to a feature. « No compré fruta porque tenía comida en casa » explains a negative purchase. These reasons differ in time and topic, so one reusable porque phrase should not be pasted after every sentence. A reason need not represent everybody's preferences; a fictional personal account is not evidence that all learners enjoy the same place or have the same spending choices.

Read the complete model, then locate all five points rather than judging it by count alone: « Vivo en un barrio tranquilo y me gusta la plaza porque hay árboles. Normalmente leo allí con Ana. Ayer compré un libro y después escribí unas notas. No compré fruta porque tenía comida en casa. Mañana voy a volver con mi hermano. Queremos leer allí y hablar de nuestros libros. ». The disclosed whitespace word count is a reproducible teaching measure, not an official examiner's marking rule or a grade estimate. The negative and tomorrow plan remain compatible: not buying fruit yesterday does not prevent returning tomorrow. The final wish to read together develops the plan without introducing an extra unannounced tense pattern.

The reused plaza illustration offers a fictional setting: four adult people, fruit baskets, trees, a notebook, a backpack and a fountain. It does not establish the narrator's home, yesterday's purchases or tomorrow's plan. The written task permits invented narrative, so those facts come from the chosen account. Do not write « hay cuatro estudiantes » as observed evidence when the scene establishes people but no enrolment. A scene can support visual interest without becoming a source of ungrounded personal facts.

A complete contrasting answer can be equally relevant: « Mi barrio es pequeño, pero la plaza es bonita. Me gusta porque puedo hablar con mis amigos. Normalmente llevo un libro. Ayer fui con Ana y leímos allí. No compré nada porque no tenía dinero. Mañana vamos a escribir unas notas allí. Quiero entender mejor el libro nuevo de Ana. ». Its neighbourhood is small; its reason is social; its past negative is lack of money. Those choices are coherent alternatives, not corrections of the first person's experience. Check that no contradiction slips in when borrowing clauses: « No compré nada » cannot be followed by « Compré un libro » for the same visit unless a clear change of occasion is stated. Truthful invented constraints are useful practice for faithful real communication.

After drafting, make two passes. First check all five points, chronology, negatives and participant changes. Then check agreement, accents and verb forms, preserving the meaning rather than making the text longer by default. Replacing « mi barrio son tranquilo » with « mi barrio es tranquilo » repairs singular agreement; replacing « mañana fui » with « mañana voy a ir » repairs the intended future plan. These full written models deepen one Foundation task; unseen tasks, broader vocabulary, audio and independently marked performance remain open.

Worked example: Original Foundation task: write about 50 words covering your fictional neighbourhood, your opinion of the square with a reason, your normal activity there, yesterday's visit and tomorrow's plan. Answer all five points coherently.

Plan one clear contribution to every point: description, reasoned opinion, routine, completed visit and future intention.

Keep the narrator consistent; use normally/present, yesterday/preterite and tomorrow/ir a + infinitive.

Read the whole account for contradictory purchases or changed companions before checking word count.

Answer: Vivo en un barrio tranquilo y me gusta la plaza porque hay árboles. Normalmente leo allí con Ana. Ayer compré un libro y después escribí unas notas. No compré fruta porque tenía comida en casa. Mañana voy a volver con mi hermano. Queremos leer allí y hablar de nuestros libros.

Check your understanding: Revise the complete answer for these new facts: the neighbourhood is small; you enjoy meeting friends; yesterday you bought nothing because you had no money; tomorrow you will write notes there. Preserve all five points. Explain why « mañana fui » fails.

Answer: Mi barrio es pequeño, pero la plaza es bonita. Me gusta porque puedo hablar con mis amigos. Normalmente llevo un libro. Ayer fui con Ana y leímos allí. No compré nada porque no tenía dinero. Mañana vamos a escribir unas notas allí. Quiero entender mejor el libro nuevo de Ana. Fui is a completed past form; tomorrow's intention needs mañana voy a ir or a coherent equivalent such as mañana vamos a escribir, with the stated subject preserved.

Why: The alternative is a complete new response, not a three-sentence diagnostic. Relevance and consistency matter in addition to form; no model word count by itself establishes a grade.
