A work surface without the glare

By Home décor · myAudience

AI-generated fictional interior illustration: An oak desk with a shaded adjustable lamp directed at plain paper, unbranded closed laptop and clear cable-free floor. Not a photograph of a real home.

A home work corner needs comfortable visibility more than a striking lamp silhouette. Start with the paper or screen you actually use.

Move a portable task light beside the work area and observe the reflections on the screen. Try a different angle before making the light brighter. Keep enough light for nearby papers without placing a bright bulb in your line of sight.

Check bulb and dimmer compatibility where relevant. Avoid trailing cables across the route to the desk, and follow device ventilation instructions. A neat arrangement should not ask operating equipment to sit buried in fabric or an enclosed drawer.

Try an ordinary session at the desk. If you squint or constantly turn the screen, change the position again. The final lamp can be attractive, but its practical job gives the room its reason for being there.
